The heart and soul of any dental practice lie with their team, and we’re not shy about saying that we have one of the best around! Each member has at least a decade of experience (if not more), and they all have one goal that they strive for every day: to give our patients the smoothest, easiest, and most stress-free dental experience possible. Barb, Dental Hygienist
Barb has been working in the dental field for 15 years so far. She is originally from Groton and attended the University of South Dakota. She is also certified in nitrous oxide. She enjoys getting to know patients and being able to help them with their dental needs!
Barb and her husband Skye have three children named Kaelyn, Trevor, and Kelsey. When she isn’t busy at work, she loves spending time with her family and friends.
Mary, Registered Dental Hygienist
Mary has been a member of the Knutzen Family Dentistry team for 33 years now, with over 41 years spent in the dental world altogether. She received her education from Ferris State University in Michigan. What she enjoys most about her job is being able to work with people of all ages!
Mary is originally from Jackson, MI. She is married to Pete and has two grown children named Joe and Anne, as well as a wonderful daughter-in-law. Her hobbies include walking, riding bikes, camping, and reading. She also enjoys visiting her long time older patients in the nursing home whenever she can.
Julie, Dental Hygienist
Julie is from Brookings, and she has been working in dentistry for 17 years so far. She received her college education from USD. One of her favorite parts of her job is being able to build such wonderful relationships with patients and helping them feel comfortable in the chair.
Julie has a son named Joe and a daughter named Grace. Her interests include scrapbooking, reading, and going to the lake.
Kim, Dental Hygienist
Kim is brand-new to Knutzen Family Dentistry, and she has nine years of experience in dentistry overall. She has her Bachelor’s from USD and is also certified in local anesthesia and nitrous oxide. What she enjoys most about her job is building such strong relationships with patients and helping their teeth look great.
Kim is from Wakonda, SD. She and her husband Tyler have two sons named Ty and Luke and a daughter named Macy. When she isn’t busy at the practice, she enjoys doing all kinds of outdoor activities with the kids, including walking, biking, playing games and sports, camping, and boating. She also loves going to concerts!
Tammy, Dental Assistant
Tammy first joined the practice 23 years ago, and she has 26 years of overall dental world experience. She has her Expanded Functions certificate and is also trained in CPR, nitrous oxide, dental implants, radiology, and CEREC. She loves being able to help patients!
Originally from Hendricks, MN, Tammy and her husband have two children and a grandson. When she isn’t busy at the office, she enjoys working in her yard, going ice fishing, camping with her family, and going to the lake at her Mom and Dad’s house. She can fix just about anything and will always try her best to do.
Kay, Dental Assistant
Kay has been a part of our oral healthcare team for over 30 years now. She attended Golden Valley Lutheran College before pursuing her dental education at the Minnesota Institute of Dental Assisting. She also has her Expanded Functions certificate and has undergone advanced training in CPR, nitrous oxide, radiology, CEREC, dental implants. She loves working together with such a great team to help patients in difficult situations.
Kay originally hails from Salol, MN and is married with two children and two grandchildren. Her hobbies include spending time with her family, reading, and running with her dog. In addition to being a dental assistant, she is also a reserve police officer for the Brookings Police Department!
Ashley, Dental Assistant
Ashley is a brand-new addition to our team! She has been working in dentistry for six years and counting. She attended SDSU for two years before moving on to the Lake Area Technical Institute for dental assisting. Today, she also has her Expanded Functions certificate and additional training in nitrous oxide, CEREC, CPR, orthodontics, and radiology. She loves being able to turn bad dental care experiences into good ones for patients.
Ashley was born in Stockton, CA but considers her hometown to be Volga, SD. She has a three year old son named Korbin. When she isn’t busy at the practice, she enjoys camping, golfing, and spending time with friends and family.
Tara, Dental Assistant
Tara started at our practice in July of 2017. She received her education from Lake Area Tech and has undergone additional training in nitrous oxide, CPR, and radiology. She loves helping patients!
Originally from Clear Lake, Tara has two sisters and four brothers. When she isn’t busy at work, she enjoys staying at her family’s lake cabin, shopping, being with loved ones, and going to Florida on vacation every year.
Angela has been a member of our team for 23 years and counting, and she loves the hours and flexibility of her job! Originally from Clear Lake, she spent one year at SMSU. She has also trained in radiography.
Angela has three daughters, two granddaughters, and a husband named Brian with his own three children and four grandkids. Her interests outside of the office include working in the yard and going for walks.
Lori has been working in the dental field for an impressive 39 years and counting. She attended Dakota State College. Her favorite part of is getting to meet so many new people and see lots of familiar faces! She loves chatting with patients.
Lori is originally from Rutland, SD, and she grew up on a farm. Today, she is married to her husband Jeff, who has three children, eight grandchildren, and one great grandchild. Her interests include SDSU football, walking, family time, going to church, and hanging out with her two dogs. She also has a place in the Black Hills that she regularly visits.
